Cleanse Day 11

FinishlineOH, THANK HEAVEN FOR DAY ELEVEN!!!!

We are here; we have arrived @ the final day of the cleanse.

Once again: congratulations, everyone, for getting this far - just a few more hours to go!!!

Hope you enjoyed the return of nuts and quinoa yesterday. Last night I steamed up some pumpkin and made some quinoa. Then, I wrapped avocado, the pumpkin, and some quinoa in a nori roll with olive oil and sea salt. I call it my Nori Pumpkin hand roll and it was soooo tasty.
Anyway, enjoy the last day I hope everyone feels as good as I do.

I have not heard from enough people about getting together tonight, so we will pospone tonight until we find a day that works for many of us.  Next cleanse, I will have the last night better organized, because I think it's great to all get together again on the other side and share the experience.
If you want to share some final thoughts, weight loss results, tips, etc., I would love to hear them.
Take care everyone. Congratulations.
All the best in health.

Letter From a Client

329583935_f939a5cf3bWow, just got such a wonderful message I want to share.
It involved an "emergency" of sorts - a friend in need.  I was asked to pull some supplements off the shelf and send them out quick.  A long-time, loyal client, who has really embraced our philosophy, is on a trip he has been planning for some time.  He is literally climbing a mountain - but, the supplements he wanted to have with him never made it.
Thanks, UPS - we could help!
So, I put together a package of our 6 Essentials from Holistic Fitness and some extra goodies (e.g., bars and energy products) that I just sell in retail at Real Raw Live and we got them to him.
Here is his response; this is what it's all about!

Irma, Thanks so much for this.  I checked and I see that the delivery location is small but right near the airport.  So, I can pick up the package in the morning just before we head off.  This is a great help; I CAN'T GO WITHOUT MY SUPPLEMENTS!!!  I will salute you and Greg when I am standing at the 14,410 ft. summit of Mt. Rainer.  I owe this journey to the supplements and the “One Body, One Life” philosophy.
Cheers, Bob

My response is: You’re soooo welcome, Bob!  It's all about the extra effort that makes me feel so fulfilled.  Have a great climb, my friend!!!  I want to hear all about it!

Had A Great Day

MallikaI have been blessed to have supporters in my life and career.
Two influential people have been Deepak Chopra and Tara Guber.  We go back 15 years now - wow life is moving !!
Deepak's daughter Mallika (picture of her with her kids to the left) has become an acclaimed writer and has a new book "100 Questions From My Child". I took the family to support her @ a local park where friends and family got together to talk about her new book, family values, and connecting on a human level with all going on in the world.
It's so powerful to have a collective of people connecting on the basics of love, presence and simply sharing. Just a reminder to me and I want to remind everyone in my community @ one body one life that we are all in this journey together and we all share such similar values no matter where we come from.
In the end we are all one !!
Mallika's book is a children's book and she had this great live music from "fundamental music".  Everyone was dancing and letting loose. Deepak shared with us that when it comes to our kids this is all they need:

  • Kisses
  • Hugs
  • Singing
  • Reading stories
  • Human touch

Deepak said "kids stop developing emotionally @ the age of six, so it's vital to love love". Doesn't matter about anything else, but these core elements. My wife and I just had a daughter five weeks ago. My son is 3 and a half and I wonder, "gosh am I doing this right ?  Am I being a good parent".
We all do, right?
Anyway after spending the afternoon at this beautiful event put on by Tara Guber with my wife and family, it really reinforced there is no right and wrong when it comes to love.
In Mallika's book she talks about how her father created "the three C's" when they were growing up:

  • Complain
  • Criticize
  • Condemn

Just try to get through your day without ever using any of these three words out loud or as actions - to others or to yourself.
Then, try to create a game of it and share this game with your children or even with your friends. No matter how hard of a day your having, stay in the positive and never judge or blame.
SO SIMPLE; SO POWERFUL.
Try it , share it ......
I have a category in my book and I will add a category in this blog called "Exercise for Your Spirit" and this game needs to be in there.
Thx, Deepak.
If anybody has some great "Exercises for the Spirit" please e-mail them or write a comment and we will post and highlight them.
Check out the Chopra Center for some great programs and Yoga Ed for some amazing inspiration.

We all work together and all support each other from the different planes of wellness we each represent. You get so much more accomplished when you collaborate and share.
Look for more synergy from us in the future,
Remember "One Body, One Life "

A Darwinian Moment...

Orangutan_2Let me start the week by sharing a funny story about a very famous rock star client of mine, out of London.
I can't reveal his name, but this client is a male in his mid-30's.
We were preparing him for a tour and we were both invited to be guests of the Sultan of Brunei at his palace.  It was a surreal experience, to say the least.
My client was just discovering the world of fitness and health, wanting to achieve superhero excellence.

Coming from the world of rock 'n roll, he'd never really considered any physical training, let alone the Holistic Fitness experience.  As you know, my training philosophy unites body, mind and spirit, and as he moved into the training, he fell in love with that experience and wanted to move to a superhero level in his results.

He discovered a new coordination within himself.  He walked differently.  His presence was different.

The Hidden Athlete within ......

Now, take this sense of purpose, power and fulfillment, and put the two of us in Brunei.   We were given a tour of the sultan's private zoo, which features animals from around the world.  Strolling through, feeling awed, suddenly we came upon a giant orangutan.  My client, feeling one with nature, and full of his own sense of purpose, proceeded to take a closer look at this magnificent specimen.

As he approached the cage, the orangutan extended his hand out toward my client through the bars of the cage.  My client,  now feeling so connected to the earth, began to experience a Darwinian moment, feeling he wanted to connect physically with this monkey; so he began to give him his hand, looking the huge animal right in the eyes.

At that moment, six assistants came running forward and TACKLED MY CLIENT - just in the nick of time.

The head assistant, Ziam, then explained that if the monkey had actually succeeded in grabbing this world-renowned rock star's hand, the orangutan would have whipped my client towards the cage, breaking not only his hand and arm, but likely dislocating the arm from the socket.

Shocked, to say the least, and slightly humbled, my client looked again to connect with the orangutan, who looked at him and gave him a smirk that seemed to say, "Maybe next time!"...

Shape Up Like Spider-Man

SpidermanTobey is all over the media now as the movie premieres around the world.  With that in mind, I wrote this piece for another site and thought I would re-publish it here:

We all love Spider-Man because, as superheroes go, we can relate to him. Sure, he’s got that special Spidey sense, yet he’s not the size of a brick building and he doesn’t eat villains for lunch.

He’s a little more like the rest of us mere mortals -- and he has many of the fitness qualities we aspire to:  strength, speed and agility.

Well, with the superhero workout below, you can shape up like Spider-Man, too. But these three activities aren’t for the weak. If you’re a beginner, start slowly and work your way up to this challenge.

Peter Parker push-ups:

Start on the floor in traditional push-up position.
Keep your abs braced and your body in a straight line, parallel to the floor. Slowly lower yourself down, and as you do, bring your right knee toward your right elbow. Try to rotate your knee so it is outside your elbow, keeping your foot off the ground. Hold for 5 seconds, pushing through your chest, shoulders and triceps and then return to the starting position. Aim for 5 to 10 push-ups per side.

Superhero side planks:

Side planks will help build your core strength. Start by lying on the floor on your left side. Then lift up on your left elbow so that your hips are off the floor and your entire body is in a straight line. Hold for one minute and then repeat on the right side. That’s one set. Aim to do three sets on each side.

Spidey sprints:

To do your best Spidey imitation, you need to be built for speed. Get outdoors for this one. The goal is to do 10, 100-yard sprints. Be sure to warm-up first with some jogging and half-paced practice sprints, then pick up the pace. Sprint as hard as you can --- all or nothing -- go, go, go, go, go! Record your times and see how you improve each week. At the end of each sprinting session, take a little walk to keep things loose and then get in some nice stretches.

Do these activities three days a week and make sure you get enough protein in your diet and feel your transformation!

How to Find Time To Work Out When None Exists

Colorful_clocks_2 “I just don’t have time to exercise today.”

I admit it: Sometimes I use this excuse myself - but, whenever I catch myself doing this, here’s what I say to myself: “Shut up and show up!

The reason I’m not very tolerant of the “no-time” excuse – and it is an excuse – is because most of my clients don’t indulge in it, and they are among the busiest people in the world.  Many of the people I train have a full-time person on staff just to deal with their time-management issues.  One of my clients has two schedulers.

The people I work with speed from one commitment to the next, and when I say speed, I mean it literally – courtesy of the Los Angeles freeway system, the biggest Bumper Car ride in the world.  In Los Angeles, people can change a tire at 75 m.p.h.

These busy people are superstars, super-agents, and corporate presidents.  Some of them are movie stars who make money by looking good.  But they looked good before they made money, and they were just as busy during their years of struggle.

My other clients, though – the business people – don’t make a nickel by looking good.  But they do make money by feeling good, and if there’s one thing exercise is guaranteed to do, it’s to make you feel good: energetic, clear-headed, and in a positive mood.

The only time most of these mega-busy people have to work out is early in the morning, because they not only work late, but also have social and business events in the evening.  They also need time with their families, of course.  Therefore, my prime-time appointment slots, the ones that people compete for, are from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m.  That’s when I see my Hollywood power-executives.  They work 10-hour days and 5-hour nights seven days a week, crazy really.

If you’re truly busy, as so many people are, my advice to you is the same advice I give to everybody else whose schedule is squeezed:  Carve out some time in the morning.  By night, you might be too pooped out from a long day.

Another reason to work out early is because morning has a special energetic magic to it.  The ancient mystics from the East called the hour around dawn the “ambrosial hour,” because they believed that was the time when the body produced its own energizing ambrosia of ambition.  In our own modern times, doctors have identified that ambrosia as the body’s stimulating hormones and energizing catecholamine neurotransmitters.  Early every morning, these chemicals – including adrenaline, cortisol, and dopamine – replace the sedating sleep hormones, such as melatonin.  Therefore, morning is just naturally an invigorating time.
If you exercise before you go to work, three important things will happen:

  • You’ll amplify your energizing biochemicals.  Exercise increases their output.  An hour of exercise is worth two hours of pounding caffeine at Starbucks.
  • You’ll get more blood to your brain.  You’ll show up for work smarter.  Your memory will be better, and your cognitive function will be accelerated.
  • You’ll arrive at work feeling less stressed.  If you’ve got any kind of a demanding job at all, it’s almost impossible not to bring some chemically-caused fight-or-flight tension to it.  But exercise will burn off the worst of your stress chemicals, and you’ll start your workday feeling much more relaxed.

You may not even need to wake up any earlier to fit in your morning-time exercise.  Many people have extra time in the morning that gets wasted, as they sit in a stupor, waiting for their coffee to kick in.  When you work out, you won’t need so much coffee, since exercise is naturally stimulating.
However, if you just can’t find time to exercise in the morning, try to do it right after you finish work.  You’ll probably still be fidgety from job stress, and you can physicalize that stress and wash it away.  Then you can start your evening feeling calmer and happier.
Can’t do it right after work, either?  Fine.  Do it later.  BUT DO IT.  Don’t make excuses.  Tough it out, You can do this. Remember from great struggle comes great rewards.

Thanks to Pink...and a Plug For My Book

Pink_on_stagePINK has been getting a lot of great press recently about her body, her self-image and the confidence she conveys. I think it's great!

As I mentioned in a post a few weeks back, PINK has been a great client and a great friend.  She gave me a wonderful quote to use to promote my book when it first came out.  I was really moved by her generosity and kind words and every once in a while, I find this quote in my stuff and it makes me smile - figured I would share it with you, too.

"I am not your typical gym person and I get bored easily with working out. Greg's program is anything but boring, and I'm giving everything I need to stay with it. In every possible way, from the food prescribed, to to the training, to how it makes me feel, Greg's One Body, One Life program is LIFE CHANGING."

This blog is an attempt to share my philosophy, approach and tips each day, but the book stands alone as an all-in-one guide and companion.

Thanks for reading my blog or my book or, best of all, both of them.  And, to you - and to PINK - thanks for all your support.
