Gregory Joujon-Roche helps celebrities get into the best shape of their lives.
Now he brings that knowledge to you.
Available at Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.
I've discussed this topic in the past, but I want to mention it again - projecting who and what you want to be.
All superstars have one thing in common: They know how to project themselves.
They have so much personality, and put it across so well, that you just can’t help but be impressed by them.
When I say “stars,” I’m not talking just about actors. There are star business people, star politicians, star news reporters – and star work-at-home moms. It’s not the spotlight that makes the star.
Even though not all “stars” are famous, though, they all have tremendous influence within their own spheres, and are regarded by their peers with a certain degree of awe. The same can be said of you, too, if you put some effort into it.
Here are the basics:
- Posture. Your mom was right – when you slump around people will show less respect for you. When you stand tall, you command respect. Height’s not the issue; most leading actors in Hollywood who are far smaller than they seem onscreen. They just don’t “play” small.
- Carriage. Carriage is your posture in motion – it’s how you carry yourself. The biggest mistake most people make in how they carry themselves is that they put no effort into being graceful. Grace is worth its weight in gold. It’s intrinsically attractive. But too many people march around like wooden soldiers. You can hear them coming from two rooms away. Another mistake of carriage is moving tentatively and apprehensively. When you learn to move as if you mean it, people will treat you as if you’re strong, and it will amplify the strength you already have.
- Attitude. Projecting a positive image starts with projecting a positive attitude. I don’t mean putting on a generic, happy-face façade. I hate facades. I mean putting the best parts of your personality out where people can see them.
If you’re a cockeyed optimist, let it shine through. If one of your best traits is compassion, don’t settle for just feeling it: Show it. If you’re naturally courageous, let people know it.
AN EXERCISE FOR YOUR SPIRIT
Stay in Character
Pick an afternoon, or an evening – maybe a dinner date – and focus on your power of projection. Put it all together: your posture, your carriage, and attitude. Commit to the character you create.
You might find that this character is closer to the real you than you realized. Or it might open up great traits that you didn’t know were there. Have fun with it! Don’t come from ego. Come from courage. And don’t feel surprised if you feel a little uncomfortable playing the role of this great character you’re creating. That’s a natural part of change, and growing.

Today’s post is a response to a viewer comment. Linda was responding to last week’s blog about never having enough time to workout, which you can check out here.
Comment: You're absolutely right; time is where you make it. I get up at 4:30 a.m. to work out before I go to work. I have a 30 minute each way commute to work. I have to be in bed by 9:00 to be able to get up so early. I don't watch TV because it takes up too much valuable time. Twice a week after work, I go to an hour long kick-butt kickboxing class. Funny, it's usually the kickboxing class I have to talk myself into because I'd so much rather go home! Getting up at 4:30 is a habit and even though it is still hard to do on cold mornings, once up, I never regret it. Like Nike, I frequently tell myself to Just Do It! I read a lot of fitness magazines, your column and book, and various websites to keep myself motivated. No, it isn't always easy, but it is always worth it. -Linda
Response: Hey Linda! Wow, see its comments like yours that constantly puts me in check! 4:30 a.m.! Wow, that is committed!
But you’re right. Once you’re up, it’s the best thing you can do. One of my very first films I worked on was with Demi Moore on a film called "The Juror". Don't know if you remember this film, but anyway we were actually training for her next film, “Striptease”, and had to train around 4 a.m. every morning. It was the only time available.
This was in New York, and most mornings we would run outside around the reservoir @ Central Park. It was amazing, because the sky would start out black. Then, slowly the morning would rise as we ran. The colors would go from dark blue to lighter blue to finally sunrise. The city sounds, cabs and the hustle of New York, would gradually grow as the day broke. You would actually hear the city wake up!
Being in Central Park, we would hear the birds go from silent to full chirp as people would slowly join us on the running path around the reservoir. It turned into such an incredible time and ritual for us. I will never forget that side of New York; so gentle, just for that small window of time between 4:00 and 5:30 a.m. The funny thing is we had security following us, which was hysterical! These poor guys, running to keep up with us with their flashlights. They actually got in great shape as well!
It's something I will never forget, and a quality I always carry with me. Every time I go to New York, I find the time to get to the park. It's like visiting an old friend. Central Park to me is what makes Manhattan such a special city!
Thanks again for your comment Linda! I really appreciate it!

Good Monday, everyone!
I would like to dedicate today’s post to my client, Michael Hall. Dexter had its final episode last night on Showtime, and the second season of Dexter was a huge success! Personally, I thought it was very entertaining, and the show really found itself this season. Funny how slowly over the season Michael had more and more body shots. A compliment to his fantastic body development and training. Indeed, he looks amazing!
We really focused on leaning him out through intense circuit training, cardio, and strength. He got so strong this season that @ one point his body literally just took off, just like the TV show. We both were amazed by his strength and development, and haven't looked back! Actually, it has been incredible and I am so proud of Michael’s transformation into a standout leading man! Now he has been nominated for a Golden Globe for best actor, and that is the cherry on the cake for Michael.
So, congratulations, Michael, on such a year for you! I am so proud and lucky to be a small part of such an amazing ride. There is nothing you can't accomplish! You are such a great person; you deserve everything and then some! Thank you Michael, and again congratulations!!!!

In my not too far distant past, I traveled the world working with the Spice Girls. Predominantly, Melanie Chisholm a.k.a. "Sporty Spice". Well, they are back for a reunion tour and it should be lots of fun!
Met with my girl yesterday, and she's right onto our cleanse and ready to rock! She looks amazing, and she is such a dear friend. Sometimes a client will stay in my life and we become friends because of the experiences we have shared. Melanie is family to me and I will know her for the rest of my life.
I was thinking of the fires last week and remembering when I was in Liverpool, England staying at a local hotel when Melanie was on tour. I remember I was on the internet e-mailing home, trying to knock out work with the time difference in Los Angels. Well, the fire alarm goes off. I, of course, jam a towel at the alarm in my room and get back to work.
20 minutes later, I am hearing a lot of people running about down my hallway. So I look out my window and there is a total evacuation happening!! People running out of the hotel with just blankets around them. Well, I forgot that it's cold out. I am a total diva, with very expensive shirts and gadgets, so I decide to pack. The idiot that I am, now packed; I open my door to pure smoke - I could not see a thing. Nice one! Oh, that's good, Greg. Now you’re in it!
I remember the stairs were to my left; so I take a breath, go left, find the stairs, and boogie down past these firemen with masks on looking at me bewildered. Me, with my luggage, as I wave my way down the stairs holding my breath. Squinting, I make it out. Very lucky!
I look around and there is Mel's driver "Frankie" who, I think, is the real James Bond. This guy is the man, total stud. He is standing outside, door open, in suit, looking @ me saying "Take your sweet time, why don't cha!”
I throw my stuff in the Mercedes, dust off a bit, and cough a couple times. He hands me an Evian and we are out of there.
Just crazy stuff! Fun memories, fun times! Welcome to Los Angels, Melanie. Your home away from home. So happy your here!

So, we just rolled out of the Emmy's and right into all the television premiers, as we all know. I have been crazy busy keeping everyone fit and "red carpet ready"! I have a couple clients that I want to personally wish much success and fulfillment for their work ahead.
First, is Peter Krause. He is starring in ABC's “Dirty Sexy Money” Wednesday’s, on ABC. The premier episode was great and I know the ratings kicked some serious booty, so congratulations, my friend! I know and have worked with Donald Sutherland - those two are a classic pair to watch! Nice character, Peter...you crack me up! The situations you get yourself into over the course of the episode are tremendous. Hey, 10 million a year is not a bad retainer either, Mr. Lawyer! Just when do you have time to spend some of it...?
Anyway, bottom line is it is good quality TV and I am so proud of you!
Second, is Michael Hall as he enters into his second season of Showtime’s “Dexter”. It premiers this Sunday night and I can not wait to watch it. Unlike regular TV, Showtime can take it to that next level that only being censor free allows. Wait till you see our boy's body this season! The more we got into the season of filming, the more shirtless scenes appeared in the scripts. Hey, I'll take compliments where I can get em’! Anyway, the darkness, dysfunction, and beauty that Michael brings to Dexter is incredible. It's such a fine line to tread, such a great demonstration of acting skill, to bring out all those emotions and personality glimpses and then evolve, interleave and condense them back in to further deepen the character of Dexter each episode. Try to watch Michael's work closely; he has so much going on and it's all Michael - we all need to appreciate that it is a lot of hard work and preparation. Golden Globe nomination for sure, you'll see. That's right, I am calling it now ... like my Super Bowl picks (then again, I picked the Raiders last year and the Falcons this year...)! Seriously, Michael is the definition of an actor to me. Get ready for a crazy ride this second season! Some of the story situations really push the line. Well done, Showtime!
I have become a big fan of Showtime - I think a lot of their new shows are great. Love “Californication", you go, David!!!! And Weeds is just getting silly crazy.
Cheers, you guy's!

My company, Holistic Fitness, is a collaboration of the finest trainers, nutritionists, cooks, masseuses, ect. I want to highlight my team and share with you what really goes on behind the scenes.
Josh Wingate is an amazing Zen Master!
He has an incredible blend of Martial Arts, Yoga, and Strength. He takes our clients to the limit and beyond.
Every session we do with a client is journaled and shared, so the whole team on that particular client and project stays connected and documented. Here is an example of the mind set going into a session with Nathon Fillion as we (our team and Nathon) are currently in the middle of a complete transformation of him for his character on the upcoming season of ABC's Desperate House Wives.
This is a very advanced session, where Josh actually uses an aerobic exercise to bring Nathon's heart rate down, not up. Super cool, and way "out of the box" training! I would expect nothing less.
You might want to try this, or adapt the principles in this post to your own current routine.
Here is an actual journal entry for you - check it out!
Greg,
OK so what I did w/ Nathan was instead of having him calm his Heart Rate down with rest, I put him on the cables and had him do some chest flies which slowed his HR down when done at a controlled pace. Then, we went in to some more anaerobic exercises which continued to bring him down further. We moved into a series of flexion holds and triceps work till his heart dropped in to the 120’s.
Then, we were ready to pump it up again with some rounds on the pads and continuously burn calories!! Cable cool downs done at a moderate pace with heavy weight.
His Heart Rate averaged 128 BPM and we burned 1150 calories in 86 minutes while actually training his chest for size!!
Crazy stuff; we were on a whole different plane today, my brother!
We ended the session with an immediate shot of Nutrition Complete in water and half an apple.
Look @ our boy transform; just incredible stuff. The whole team is so dialed in, feels good!!
More to come,
Josh
There you go, maybe next time you are at the gym do a cardio activity to get your heart up, then interval with slow reps, with resistance, to bring your heart rate down and repeat.
Cool stuff! More expert insight to come in future posts.
All the best in health.

Earlier this year - as Winter was becoming Spring, I went to New York City to take part in an episode of a friend's television series. The friend was Petra Nemcova and the show was called "A Model Life" (photo at left is from the show's web site).
Well, the show debuted last week - to supportive critical reviews and good ratings, I'm told - and my episode airs this week (Friday, the 20th, at 10 PM).
Last week, Access Hollywood did a story about Petra and her show, including a clip in which I was featured - you can see it here .
I did a post about the experience back when it took place, mentioning that I focused on explaining the concept of Body Mass Index (BMI) and healthy weight for one's height. The topic of the episode was to discuss the struggles models go through to achieve the unhealthy weight levels of a misguided fashion industry. As you will hear in the interview on Access Hollywood, Petra dealt with these challenges when she was coming up through the modeling industry, she got through them and understands the critical risks faced by young, aspiring models. She asked me to come speak to them - to offer them some guidance and support - along with some honest opinion of their then current situations.
I am told the message comes through well in the episode. Check it out!

One of the cool things about Real Raw Live is that I have been connecting with a lot of great people. Sometimes, they are people I already know, but have lost touch with but can now re-establish ties. One such person is my long-time friend, Nathon Fillion, who has an active My Space page and is a blogger himself. Let me excerpt this post from his blog entry on Saturday - it talks about how we reconnected at RRL:
Then, ...we took a walk in my old 'hood. Folks in LA may know well the stretch of Franklin between Beachwood Terrace and North Bronson (named after Charles North Bronson) for it's nice restaurants and a wee theater. But seeing a new shake shop, I just had to stop in. Not till the cute lady behind the counter asked me what she could get me did I realize that the name of this place was REAL RAW LIVE. Beyond the shake bar were pleasantly arranged shelves of supplements, vitamins and healthy bits. Oops. Shakes are one thing, but health shakes? Quickly, my brain calculated scenarios wherein I could escape this establishment with the lowest body count. PJ was with me, and having played Halo with him, I knew there was no place for him to lie in wait till someone walked by (his favorite, nay, only tactic) and there was no way I could drag his ass out of there should he get wounded. I opted instead to buy a shake, fake pleasure in drinking it, and leave quietly. Everything was going well until I heard someone call my name. Greg Joujon Roche had emerged from the back of the establishment. This was both very good, and very bad. Very good because Greg is a dear old friend with whom I'd lost contact. He even gave me a surfing lesson way back. He's an "up" person. No. Rather, an "uplifting" person. Greg is a trainer to the stars, and without mentioning names, (has anyone seen TROY?) he is sought not only for his knowledge and expertise, but also for his motivation. I like to use the word guru. It was very bad because acting like something tastes good to a stranger is easy. Greg knows me. He'd know if I faked it. We chatted, caught up, I was sweating a bit, and the shake seemed to be ready in record time. I took a sip, and stopped. I looked at it, and took another sip. I looked at PJ. He was sipping, and giving me the same amazed look I was giving him. I looked back to the ingredients listed on the menu to double check for "Contains Crack". It was so good, I swore off Jamba Juice that very moment. Even PJ's 1 and a ½ year old daughter couldn't get enough.
Greg then agreed to train me for the upcoming Desperate Housewives job I'm so excited about.
After kicking my heart rate all over the gym today, I asked if he'd mind if I mentioned his new place on my Myspace page, he said, "You tell folks to say, "Nathan Fillion sent me", and I'll give them a free shot of Coconut Kefir." I only ask that when you say Nathan sent you, add in there how I saved your life, found your dog, or set your broken arm. You know the drill. Those that don't, read the earlier blogs. Remember: short and sweet keeps it funny. Might I recommend the Protein Power? If you don't like it, I'll eat my blog.

First of all let's be clear - she did a fast, not a cleanse.
Now with a fast, it's a liquid and pill protocol which will definitely make you loose weight ... right up until the moment you eat food.
In the mean time, this artificial weight loss is wreaking havoc on your body and shutting down your metabolism. The moment you re-introduce food into your system your body immediately stores it as fat and soon the weight comes back on ... and then some.
It will literally kick you in your butt - by storing fat at a lightning pace!
Wouldn't you rather create a fat burning furnace out of your body?
A process that burns fat at a lightning pace and doesn't lose momentum when you eat food, but rather increases in intensity and efficiency when you eat the right food ?
People - my wonderful one body, one life community - this is such an un-healthy way to lose weight.
In future posts I will have our Doctor Robert Abatiello comment further on this subject. We need to be educated and informed.
While on the set last year shooting Spider-Man 3 we had some people who decided to do this maple syrup master cleanser fast while attempting to work at the same time. IT WAS A DISASTER!!!
Please take my advice you need to eat to lose weight, not starve. There are so many cleanses out there please do your homework. Educate yourself. Check out the facts. If you do, you will understand why we promote this cleanse. It is regimented, it is well thought out, you eat during it and it works.
We recently had some of Beyonce's peers on a cleanse - they raved about the benefits they achieved - so let's see if we can't reach her, as well. I think she would find it to be a lot different than the fast she (I'm guessing) suffered through...
